Make a Noodle Necklace

By Tiffany Olmstead, Publisher Mom April 23, 2015
Several wonderful children at the Field Day at Forsythe Park loved making these noodle necklaces and wondered how to do them at home.  I promised them I'd have the instructions in this week's newsletter.

1. Purchase pasta noodles (penne, rigatoni, and wheels work the best). Do not use wheat, the brown color makes difficult to dye.

2. Dye to your favorite colors: Use 2 tbsp-1/4 cup (depending on amount of noodles) white vinegar or rubbing alcohol to help the color spread and remain. You do not need to cover noodles. Add 5-15 drops food colors of your choice.  Be creative & educate - mix red and yellow to show how it makes orange for example.

3. Soak the noodles for several hours for deeper color tones.

4. Drain liquid

5. Pour noodles onto counter or pan lined with paper towels.  Use 2-3 layers of paper towels to prevent color stain.  Let dry.

6. Time for the stringing of noodles onto plastic craft necklace or yarn!

This is a great craft for any number of kids!  The noodles can stay fresh for several months in zipper storage bags.
