God in the Garden exhibit featuring the art of Henrietta Milan

(Monroe, La.) - God in the Garden, an exhibit of thirty impressionistic views of gardens and flowers by Henrietta Milan. The exhibit officially opens with two weekend events Feb. 17 and 18 at the Biedenharn Museum and Gardens.

The weekend begins with an opening reception Friday, February 17 from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm. Guests will have the opportunity to view the exhibit, meet the artist, stroll the Gardens and enjoy light refreshments. The opening is free and open to the public.

Saturday, February 18, Henrietta Milan will be in the gallery to meet with guests and to discuss the works on display from noon-2:00 pm. Meeting the artist is free and open to the public.

Always artistic, Milan has been painting for over four decades. Her work serves as a beautiful reminder of her time spent traveling in France. Her paintings celebrate the style of impressionist Claude Monet, but with her own interpretation. Milan's use of soft pastels and vibrant colors create breathtaking florals and magical gardens. She does not use a brush and all her work is done with a pallet knife which adds depth, shadow and light to her work. The influence of gardens of Tivoli, Giverny, and Monet's home all provide inspiration. Like the masters, Milan depicts traditional water lilies and gardenscapes with technical prowess.

"Henrietta is an artist who is not only talented, but her paintings echo the serenity and majesty of the Biedenharn Gardens," says Executive Director Ralph Calhoun. "This exhibit wonderfully dovetails with the beauty of our gardens, the spirituality of the Bible Museum and our institution's mission."

The exhibition, titled God in the Garden, officially opens Friday, February 17, and runs through Saturday, August 19. All exhibited works may be purchased with some of the proceeds benefiting the Biedenharn Museum and Gardens.
