April 12 Ribbon Cutting Ceremony for Free Little Mobile Library in Charles Johnson Children's Park

Mayor Jamie Mayo and the Monroe City Council invites the media and public to attend the following ribbon cutting ceremony:

Time/Date: 11:30 am Friday, April 12, 2019

Location: Charles Johnson Children’s Park, 3313 Bernstein Park Drive (across from the Louisiana Purchase Gardens & Zoo)

Mayor Jamie Mayo says, “Thanks to a generous donation from Ms. Amelia Campbell, young boys and girls who frequent the Charles Johnson Children’s Park will have a special opportunity to experience the joy of reading.  Ms. Campbell has donated to the City of Monroe, what she calls, a Free Little Mobile Library. The donation was accepted at a recent Monroe City Council meeting.”

This Free Little Mobile Library is a converted newspaper stand that has been painted in bright colors and will be stocked with books for parents and children to take, read, and return for other young people to read.  Book donations are welcomed. Reading in the park is a great way to spend quality family time together, while making learning fun!

Amelia Campbell says, “A good book can help any imagination to run wild & free.  My goal is to have a chain of libraries located in different low to moderate income areas of both Monroe and West Monroe.  I’ve taken old newspaper stands donated by the Monroe News-Star and turned them into mobile libraries.  If it takes a village to raise a child, it takes the responsibility of all functioning adults to assist in their academic and personal growth.  Although we are living in a technological age, an old-fashioned book will never go out of style.  Readers are leaders; and, I aspire to see the children read and lead!”
