SummerFest 2019

By Ouachita Parish Public Library May 16, 2019

Come on out to SummerFest, Ouachita Parish Public Library's free, community, kick-off party to the summer reading challenge from 10 a.m. - 2 p.m. May 18 at the Main Branch!

The 2019 summer reading challenge theme is “Universe of Stories.” Adults, teens and children alike are invited to attend space-themed programs and read out-of-this-world books during the summer. Patrons can win prizes for attending programs, reading books and participating in other summer reading challenge activities.

After registering for the summer reading challenge at SummerFest, grab a free snow cone (while supplies last) and groove to live bands, Six O'Clock Traffic, and The Bad Monkey Brass Band. Children’s booths will feature hands-on STEAM activities and a jumper, while teens can launch rockets in the teens-only area. Children can snack on free Moon Pies (while supplies last).

There will even be a moonwalk contest!

Everyone is invited to pack a picnic or purchase meals from local food trucks, Tribe's and Skinny Phil’s Food Truck. Please bring your own lawn chairs and blankets for seating.

Both the bookmobile and the Main Branch Library will be open for patrons to check out books and get started on the summer reading challenge.

It will be a blast!

SummerFest is from 10 a.m. - 2 p.m. May 18 at the Main Branch Library (1800 Stubbs Avenue, Monroe, LA 71201). All other branches will be closed for the day.

SummerFest and the summer reading challenge are funded in part by the Friends of the Ouachita Public Library.

Can't make it to SummerFest? You can still join all the fun programs at the 10 branches this summer.
