The Very Hungry Caterpillar Celebration

April brought us a hungry caterpillar, and May brings a Butterfly Launch.

The Ouachita Parish Public Library provides free access to information, educational resources, and entertainment for people of all ages and backgrounds. They promote literacy, lifelong learning, and community engagement. They also serve as a safe and welcoming space for people to gather, study, and participate in numerous activities.

Recently, we visited one of the ten branches of the library, The Carver-McDonald Branch.  You see, curiosity got the best of us because we had been hearing all about, "The Very Hungry Caterpillar."  We were on a mission to see the caterpillar habitat.

So, have you run into a best friend that you haven't seen in a very long time? That is what it was like when I walked through the doors of the library. I was greeted by, Janet Davis, who is a sunshine person. A sunshine person is someone who immediately makes others grow and I can't think of a better trait for someone to have who works with youth in our community.

Next, I met, Joyce Powell, Branch Manager for The Carver-McDonald Branch. She is so passionate about the library and let me know how excited she was that Macaroni Kid Monroe-West Monroe stopped by for a visit.

Of course, the visit wouldn't have been complete without her telling me about the CATTAILS Publication that gives you great information about the libraries and she asked me to subscribe. We highly recommend that you do so, it is a wonderful publication.

Our tour began and we couldn't wait to learn more about the Caterpillar Habitat. The project began earlier in the month and older kids were journaling about their observations while younger kids were picture journaling as the metamorphosis occurred.

The first thing I was shown was small containers with a food substance that previously contained caterpillars. Then on to the caterpillar habitat! It was wonderful to see all the BUTTERFLIES!
