The City of Monroe in coordination with the City of West Monroe filed a joint application with the Delta Regional Authority to field a Medical IRT in Ouachita Parish. Medical missions provide training opportunities to military units while providing incidental benefits to communities via no-cost healthcare. Services include optometry, health exams, dental, and public health education. Care is delivered by credentialed healthcare providers, and no one is turned away. These missions are typically conducted as fairs and will last for several days to ensure maximum benefit during time spent in the community served.
More than 200 soldiers, sailors, airmen, and Marines will arrive at the Monroe Airport later this summer with a mission to provide no-cost health services from August 4th-12th while operating in both Monroe and West Monroe. Service members from the National Guard and active-duty medical units will provide eye care, dental care, and medical services.
All are invited to field clinics that will be established at the Monroe Civic Center and West Monroe Convention Center. No insurance, proof of income, residency, or photo identification is necessary. All clinics will provide physical health exams, school sports physicals (must bring school forms), and blood pressure and disease screenings. Dental services will consist of exams, fillings, and extractions. Eye care services will include vision screenings and prescriptions. An additional service of single-vision eyeglass fabrication will be provided at both locations and filled at the Monroe Civic Center, subject to stock on hand; no outside eyeglass prescriptions will be fulfilled. Patients are limited to one service per day.
Clinic hours are 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. daily, with limited Sunday hours from 1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. Clinic hours are subject to change based on service and equipment availability and training needs. Patients will be seen on a first-come/first-serve basis, and they will not be able to reserve appointments for later days. Clinic organizers recommend that patients arrive as soon as possible during clinic hours to secure a same-day service time.
