Taking one last mini-adventure before school starts was a must! My grandson and I decided to hit up Kiroli Park to explore the Mountain Bike Trails, followed by a visit to Coney Island Connection for his favorite hotdog. (Park admission $1.00 per person)

As soon as we got to the trail entrance, which is about 750 feet from the gate, we saw some posted rules: wear a helmet, stay hydrated, and don't ride if the trails are wet. Luckily, the weather was dry and hot—classic Louisiana style. Right off the bat, we had to choose between the advanced trail and the beginner trail. My grandson, being a newbie, opted for the beginner trail, so off we went. He pedaled away while I hustled to keep up. Thankfully, the trees provided plenty of shade, making our trek much more bearable despite the heat.

The beginner trail was perfect for his one-speed bike, with mostly flat terrain, some fun twists and turns, and beautiful scenery. We spotted poison ivy here and there, but none of it was on the trail itself—just one of those typical woodland things. Every now and then, we caught glimpses of the advanced trails, with their big climbs and descents. They looked awesome, but Phillip definitely made the right call for today. By the end, my step tracker showed about 3 miles—a perfect distance to work up an appetite for some delicious hotdogs!
