Sweet Showdown: Pie Baking Contest Meets Ouachita Live!

Get the kids in the kitchen for this fun homemade pie baking contest in West Monroe.

By Missy Robertson, Publisher, Macaroni KID Monroe-West Monroe August 15, 2024

Calling all pie aficionados, kitchen wizards, and those who believe in the power of butter and sugar! The Sweet Showdown is coming to town, and this isn't your average bake sale—oh no. We're talking bragging rights, blue ribbons, and cash prizes on the line. So, dust off those rolling pins, and let’s get baking!

This pie-tastic event is happening Friday, September 27th, right before the much-anticipated Ouachita Live Concert featuring Billy Allen and the Pollies. And the cherry (or pie filling) on top? It all goes down in Alley Park, nestled in the heart of downtown West Monroe. It's the ultimate combo of sweet treats and sweet tunes!

Think your pie can steal the spotlight? Prove it! Submit your best homemade pie for judging, and who knows, you could be walking away with first place and a cool $100—plus the ultimate blue ribbon to show off to your friends. Not a bad deal for a pie, right? Second place takes home $75 and a red ribbon, while third place scoops up $50. But honestly, with so many delicious pies, we’re all winners here!

And it gets even better: after the pies have had their moment of glory, they’ll be sold by the slice to benefit downtown West Monroe projects. So, even if you’re not baking, you can still enjoy a taste of victory (and maybe a little taste of defeat, depending on how the judging goes).

This is the perfect event to bring the family together. Get the kids involved—what’s more fun than cooking with the littles and passing on awesome family recipes? Let them help with the crust, sprinkle the sugar, or simply lick the spoon. It’s all part of the magic.

So, mark your calendars for an evening of family fun, fierce competition, and community spirit. And don’t forget to stick around for the concert afterward—it’s going to be one sweet night in Alley Park! (Don't forget to bring your lawn chair).
