If you’ve ever tried to convince a little one to take “just one bite” of something new, you know it can feel like a high-stakes negotiation. Kids often need to experience new foods in fun, low-pressure ways before they’ll give them a real chance. That’s why opportunities like visiting a local farmers market can be such a game-changer for families.

On Saturday, September 27, 2025, from 10:00 AM – 12:00 PM, families are invited to the Super Saturday Local Farmers to Early Childhood Education Pop-Up Market at the Town of Farmerville Farmers Market (407 South Main St). This FREE event is an experience designed to make healthy eating fun and memorable for kids and parents alike.

Here’s why this is such a big deal:

🌱 Trying new foods together builds healthy habits.
Kids are more likely to try fresh fruits and vegetables when they see parents and peers enjoying them. Walking through a farmers market, smelling, touching, and even tasting new produce turns “mystery food” into an adventure.

🎨 Fun experiences help picky eaters.
When food is tied to positive memories—like filling a bag of fresh produce with Mom or Dad, or tasting a colorful fruit for the first time at a community event—it feels less like a chore and more like play.

👩‍🌾 Local farmers inspire curiosity.
Meeting the people who grow the food helps kids connect the dots from farm to table. That connection makes it easier for them to appreciate what’s on their plate and encourages them to try something new.

At this Super Saturday event, families can:

  • Fill a bag with fresh local produce to take home (while supplies last—parent and child must be present together).
  • Enjoy activities for kids that make learning about healthy food exciting.
  • Connect with family resources that support nutrition and wellness.

This engaging community event is part of the Louisiana Farm to Early Childhood Education (ECE) initiative and is hosted by the Children’s Coalition for Northeast Louisiana in partnership with Brokers of Hope, UACT, LSU AgCenter, Louisiana Food Policy Council, and other community partners.

So, instead of another dinnertime debate over broccoli, why not make trying new foods something your kids look forward to? Bring the family out for a morning of fresh flavors, fun activities, and a chance to build healthier habits—together.
