If you haven’t strolled through the University of Louisiana Monroe’s Museum of Natural History lately, now’s the perfect time! The museum has unveiled a brand-new Louisiana Exhibit, and it’s a one-of-a-kind blend of science, storytelling, and state pride.
Created through a collaboration between ULM English students and the Museum, this exhibit goes beyond display cases—it tells the stories behind Louisiana’s natural treasures. Visitors can:
- Meet our state symbols up close, from the honeybee and petrified palm wood to a pirogue on loan from Duck Commander.
- Dive deeper with QR codes that unlock fascinating details about each artifact.
- Press buttons to hear animal calls—or even belt out the state song if you’re feeling brave!
Museum Director Amanda Thompson calls it “a cross-disciplinary project that brings Louisiana’s heritage to life through science communication, storytelling, and student creativity.” In short, this is not just a museum visit—it’s an experience.

The Museum of Natural History is located on the first floor of Hanna Hall at ULM. Admission is free, and the museum is open while ULM is in session:

Important Tip: You’ll want to call ahead (318-342-1868) to schedule your visit. The museum is staffed by faculty and students, so calling ensures you’ll be able to explore everything—including special features like the Augmented Reality Sandbox and even the Lego room!
