There’s something magical about Louisiana after dark — and on Tuesday, March 3rd at 7:30 PM, you’re invited to experience it in a whole new light.

Join the ULL Moon Walk at Black Bayou Lake National Wildlife Refuge, meeting in front of the Visitors Center, for a peaceful evening stroll under March’s full moon — known as the Worm Moon.

So… what exactly is the Worm Moon?

The Worm Moon is the traditional name for March’s full moon. As winter loosens its grip, the ground begins to soften, and earthworms reappear, signaling the return of spring. Native American and early colonial communities used these moon names to track the seasons — and the Worm Moon marked a time of renewal, warmer days, and new life beginning to stir.

And stir it does.

During this guided walk, you’ll explore the refuge as nocturnal wildlife starts to wake up. Listen for frogs calling from the water, owls moving through the trees, and the quiet rustle of creatures that prefer the moonlight over the sunshine. It’s a completely different world once the sun goes down.
