Families looking for a fresh new adventure this summer are about to reel in something special at the Louisiana Purchase Gardens and Zoo!
On June 6 from 10:00 AM–3:00 PM, the zoo is launching a brand-new experience called Where the Wild Things Fish — a catch-and-release fishing event held right at the zoo’s freshwater lagoon. Even better? Fishing gear will be provided, making it easy for families to jump right in and make memories together.
This unique event combines two things' kids already love — animals and outdoor adventure. While families enjoy a day at the zoo, children can try their hand at fishing in a safe, family-friendly environment. The event will also feature vendors, food trucks, animal keeper chats, and other activities throughout the day.
Fishing is more than just a fun pastime for children. It teaches patience, focus, problem-solving, and confidence. There’s something magical about the excitement of feeling a tug on the line for the very first time. For many families, these simple moments become the stories kids remember years later — the laughter, the cheering, and maybe even “the one that got away.”
Outdoor experiences like fishing also encourage children to slow down and connect with nature. In a world filled with screens and busy schedules, a quiet moment by the water can spark curiosity, conversation, and quality family time. Events like this help children build a deeper appreciation for wildlife and the outdoors while creating meaningful connections with parents, grandparents, and friends.
And let’s be honest — there’s just something wildly fun about saying you went fishing at the zoo.
Regular zoo admission applies for the event, but the memories families take home could last a lifetime. So, grab the kids, bring your sense of adventure, and get ready to discover Where the Wild Things Fish!
