What happens when you give young people a week to dream big, think creatively, and build a business from the ground up? You get an inspiring glimpse into the future of Northeast Louisiana!

The West Monroe–West Ouachita Chamber of Commerce's Future Entrepreneur Academy recently wrapped up another successful summer, culminating in a final pitch competition where students presented original business ideas to a panel of judges. Throughout the week, participants learned the fundamentals of entrepreneurship through hands-on activities, mentorship, customer research, marketing, financial planning, and visits with local business and community leaders. By the end of the Academy, each team had transformed an idea into a complete business proposal.

Taking home first place was Coil N Crown, an inclusive haircare brand designed specifically for people with coily, curly, and textured hair. The team developed a full line of premium products while also envisioning a business that provides education, tutorials, and a supportive community celebrating natural beauty and confidence.

Second place was awarded to Backcourt BBQ, a unique destination that combines indoor and outdoor pickleball and tennis courts with delicious barbecue, food trucks, sports merchandise, and family-friendly gathering spaces. Their concept showcased how recreation, great food, and community could come together in one exciting location.

Earning third place was SudShine, an innovative automotive business offering professional hand washing, custom vehicle decals, and automotive accessories. The team also developed creative marketing ideas, including community partnerships and social media campaigns designed to build customer engagement.

While only three teams received top honors, every student who participated should be incredibly proud. The Academy challenged students to think critically, work collaboratively, solve problems, and confidently present their ideas—skills that will benefit them no matter what career path they choose.

As parents, we love seeing opportunities that help children discover their passions while building real-world experience. Whether your child dreams of opening a business, inventing the next great product, or simply wants to develop leadership and communication skills, the Future Entrepreneur Academy offers an unforgettable experience.

Here's a tip for next summer: Keep this program on your family's radar! The Academy is expected to return, and spots are always in demand. If you have a future business owner, creator, inventor, or leader at home, this is an opportunity you won't want to miss.

Congratulations to all 36 students who completed this year's Academy and to the teams behind Coil N Crown, Backcourt BBQ, and SudShine for their outstanding business proposals. We can't wait to see what next year's entrepreneurs create!
