The City of West Monroe officially opened the Highland Park Wetland Trails to the public in February 2022. The 1.25-mile pathway has 6-foot and 10-foot sections that accommodate both pedestrians and bicyclists.

The trails were constructed on property known as the former Trenton Street Golf Course. The project was made possible by support from the Louisiana Department of Culture, Recreation and Tourism through is FHWA Recreational Trails Program for Louisiana, the Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development, and the Federal Highway Administration. The project was also supported by Hospital Service District 5 in West Monroe.

Highland Park Wetland Trails also serves as detention for stormwater runoff from adjacent neighborhoods, helping alleviate significant flooding issues previously experienced by residents.

Since opening in February 2022, the trails have been an extremely popular place for people of all ages to exercise and enjoy nature. Various species of birds and other wildlife have been spotted along the trails.
